What is a classical hybrid school?

Fincastle Classical Scholars blends grammar-stage classical education—built on the time-tested Trivium—with a hybrid rhythm. Scholars learn in the classroom three days a week and continue their learning at home the other two, using lessons and assignments FCS provides, with parents leading instruction throughout.

What does a typical week look like?

Scholars are on campus Tuesday through Thursday. On Mondays and Fridays, parents lead instruction at home using practice and assignments provided by FCS, reinforcing what was taught in the classroom and preparing for the week ahead.

What ages or grades does FCS serve?

We currently serve Kindergarten (5 years old by September 30) through 5th grade (6 years old by September 30 for First Grade). Additional grade placements are determined based on age, previous educational experience, academic readiness, and assessment results.

Do we have to already be homeschooling to enroll?

No prior homeschooling experience is required. That said, families and students will be responsible for following all applicable Virginia homeschool requirements, including submitting a Notice of Intent (NOI) to their local school division. FCS is designed as a partnership with homeschooling families—parents maintain their role as the primary educators, and FCS partners with them for in-person instruction, academic support, community, and enrichment.

Do I have to homeschool my children to enroll them in FCS?

Yes. Because FCS is a hybrid program rather than a full-time school, Virginia law considers enrolled students to be homeschooled, including on the days they attend classes at FCS. Parents remain their child's legal homeschooling providers and are responsible for meeting Virginia's homeschool requirements, such as filing a Notice of Intent (NOI) with their local school division. FCS partners with families in that role, providing in-person instruction, curriculum, academic support, and community, while parents retain primary responsibility for their child's education.

Is FCS a Christian school? What do you believe?

Yes. Fincastle Classical Scholars is Christ-centered in every subject, and our mission is to cultivate a joyful learning community that inspires wisdom, virtue, and faith. Our full Statement of Faith is available on the About page.

Is FCS affiliated with Fincastle Baptist Church?

Fincastle Classical Scholars is an independent 501(c)(3), governed by its own Board of Directors—but it is not a stand-alone effort. FCS meets at the Fincastle Baptist Church facility, its board members serve as members of the church, and the school holds to the same Statement of Faith as FBC.

What's the admissions process?

Four steps: submit the online application and registration fee, provide enrollment documents (like birth certificate and immunization records), read and affirm our Handbook, Statement of Faith, and Family Commitment, and—if requested—meet with the Director for a parent interview.

When does admissions open, and when does FCS launch?

Admissions opens in January 2027, ahead of our first class of scholars in Fall 2027.
